Figure 9 Caption on bottom of page
(Rwandan).
What I’ve learned about the Genocide in Rwanda is that I believe that in a way, the Hutus were not wrong for wanting revenge on the Tutsis. When the Belgians went to Rwanda, they declared the Tutsi above the Hutus, by giving them better living conditions, jobs and education. However, the Hutus were not treated with this and were seen as a lower class than that of the Tutsis, so they wanted revenge on them. I do believe, however, that the Hutus should have sought out revenge on the Belgians for declaring them the lower class.

I also believe that since the Hutus wanted revenge on the Tutsis, that they should not have been so harsh with their revenge. They killed over 800,000 Tutsi people and the others fled to other countries to try to survive. Some of those victims who survived now have to live next to those who had once killed their families not too long ago, and I could see another genocide happening in the future because the Tutsis are going to want revenge on those who killed their family members and made them suffer.

The picture above shows, as the caption states, "After she was gang-raped during the Rwandan genocide in 1994, Francoise was slashed with a sword by the same men as they tried to divide her in half. She know rents a small shack with her children and raises guinea pigs in her small bedroom for food".
