Rwanda’s government has been making efforts to keep yet another genocide from happening to these cultures. Many other places have been making efforts as well, “the United Nations is committed to preventing the recurrence of similar tragedies” (The United Nations and the Prevention of Genocide). I believe that the people of America can help countries, such as Rwanda, from having genocides occur if we all tried to help these two societies to get along. The United States does help a lot of countries, but I believe that by helping countries prevent violence will help out us in the long run because if we are in trouble, then this country or these countries can help us get out of trouble if we help them. The Rwandan society is taking matter into their own hands by trying to get the people who do not have ethnic identity cards to choose to not go into an ethnic category to help ease these tensions, which so far have been helping the country. In recent days, some Rwandan citizens now live side by side with the people who had once hurt them or their families, and they find it hard dealing with these tensions so close to home again. These events that have occurred made “Rwanda’s survivors confront the ugly reality of a preventable tragedy.” (The United Nations and the Prevention of Genocide).
